ACCELERATING THE CONSOLIDATION OF DEMOCRACY

Democracy in Indonesia is still an ongoing process. For the past decade, the process of democratization in Indonesia has helped in the maturing of all elements of society with valuable lessons and experiences, where subsequent years will be a critical period for the country to prove that it can indeed develop into the third largest democratic country after India and the U.S. Years to come will be a test for all pro-democracy proponents to ensure that the process follows the desired direction.

For the 2008-2010 period, Tifa is focused on promoting the agenda to "accelerate and enhance the quality of democratic consolidation in Indonesia" where its implementation is interpreted into five key programs: Human Rights & Access to Justice, Citizenship & Equality, Civil Society & Democracy, Local Governance, and Media & Information. All five programs are directed toward speeding up the process of the consolidation of democracy by supporting pro-democracy agendas specifically within civil society in Indonesia.

Founded at the end of the year 2000, Tifa's mission is to promote an open society in Indonesia which respects diversity and upholds the rule of law, justice and equality. An open society in Indonesia where the people, government and the private sector advance individual rights particularly the rights and opinions of women, the minority and other marginalized groups, support and nurture solidarity as well as good governance. In line with further developments in its mission, Tifa will continue to be keep abreast with and respond to changes that will impact on Indonesian society.

Let us link up with each other and work towards creating an open society in Indonesia!
